Se há pouco mais de 10 anos eram apenas 50 mil matrículas em graduação nessa modalidade no Brasil, em 2013 esse número saltou para 1,1 milhão, de acordo com balanço da Secretaria de Educação Superior (Sesu) vinculada ao Ministério da Educação (MEC).\u0026nbsp;\u003C\/b\u003E\u003C\/div\u003E\u003Cdiv style=\"text-align: justify;\"\u003E\u003Cbr \/\u003E\u003C\/div\u003E\u003Cdiv style=\"text-align: justify;\"\u003E\u003Cb\u003EO primeiro curso de educação a distância no país data de 1904, quando o Jornal do Brasilapresentou um anúncio sobre um curso por correspondência de datilografia. A ideia ganhou força tempos depois, com a Rádio Sociedade do Rio de Janeiro, que transmitia programas literários como uma “escola dos que não sabem ler”. No fim da década 1930, Edgard Roquette Pinto doou a rádio para o então Ministério da Educação e Saúde, que incluiu na programação aulas de línguas, história, história natural, física e química. A primeira escola de EaD foi inaugurada em 1939 com o Instituto Monitor, em São Paulo, com cursos de radiodifusão, seguida pelo Instituto Universal Brasileiro, com cursos de corte e costura, desenho artístico, mecânico, auxiliar de escritório e contabilidade, dois anos depois.\u003C\/b\u003E\u003C\/div\u003E\u003Cdiv style=\"text-align: justify;\"\u003E\u003Cbr \/\u003E\u003C\/div\u003E\u003Cdiv style=\"text-align: justify;\"\u003E\u003Cb\u003EA tecnologia foi ferramenta essencial para o desenvolvimento da modalidade. Na década de 1960, o telefone foi o grande motivador de aprendizagem, além dos avanços na televisão, com recursos como o videotape e a transmissão via satélite. Um dos marcos da transmissão de conteúdos educativos foi a Fundação Padre Anchieta, atual mantenedora da TV Cultura, em 1967. A partir de 1971, os cursos supletivos puderam ser ministrados de forma presencial ou a distância, o que permitiu os famosos telecursos produzidos pela TV Cultura e Fundação Roberto Marinho.\u003C\/b\u003E\u003C\/div\u003E\u003Cdiv style=\"text-align: justify;\"\u003E\u003Cbr \/\u003E\u003C\/div\u003E\u003Cdiv style=\"text-align: justify;\"\u003E\u003Cb\u003EEm relação ao ensino superior, a primeira experiência de educação a distância foi com o surgimento da Universidade do Ar, em 1947, pelo Senac, com parceria do Sesc. A partir de 1979, a educação a distância no ensino superior ganhou mais destaque após a Universidade de Brasília fechar um convênio com a OpenUniversity da Inglaterra, que ofereceu cursos de extensão até 1985. Essas iniciativas impulsionaram a inauguração da Universidade Aberta de Brasília, pela UnB, em 1992, um dos marcos da EaD em cursos superiores.\u003C\/b\u003E\u003C\/div\u003E\u003Cdiv style=\"text-align: justify;\"\u003E\u003Cbr \/\u003E\u003C\/div\u003E\u003Cdiv style=\"text-align: justify;\"\u003E\u003Cb\u003EA modalidade foi oficializada em 1996 pelo Ministério da Educação e regulamentada em 2005.
